Before increasing ad spend: separate domestic and inbound demand
Eurostat’s new release offers a useful reminder: the size of the European travel market alone is not a reason to increase advertising. First distinguish travel within a resident’s own country from travel into Greece.
The fact: 92% includes domestic trips
On 9 October 2026, Eurostat published 2025 figures: 70% of EU residents’ trips were domestic and 22% went to another EU country—together 92%. For residents of Greece, 85% of trips were within Greece. These count trips, not room bookings or occupancy.
The business link: two audiences, not one European market
KWCS’s interpretation is to assess domestic and inbound demand separately. The 85% does not show how many Greek residents will choose your property; the 92% does not forecast arrivals on a Greek island. These figures do not establish booking growth in Syros or at any individual business.
Before committing more budget, separate your own bookings and cancellations by residence country, channel and stay dates where reliable records exist. Message language alone does not identify a market. Establish which audience already shows interest in the dates you want to sell.
One controlled test before a bigger spend
If your records justify a test, define available stay dates, a spending cap and a review point. For Greek residents, provide Greek content with clear access and stay terms. For inbound visitors, choose the language supported by actual enquiries and explain the whole journey to the property. Adapt information, not rates by nationality.
Measure enquiries for the chosen dates, completed bookings, cancellations and revenue after channel and advertising costs. Do not judge clicks alone. If the sample is small or bookings concern other periods, keep the conclusion provisional. This is a proposed test, not a sales forecast.
How KWCS helps—and what to send us
KWCS can connect available booking records with targeted content, channels and spending limits adapted to your product: breakfast-inclusive rooms, suites or independent villas. In the contact form, include your destination, property type and the dates you want to support. Request a targeting review before increasing your budget; we will agree the required records and scope without promising unverified outcomes.
